Or be like me and check the AC 2 days before your home warranty expires and find out the outside unit doesn’t work anymore.
Kinda glad today was pretty warm and I decided to check it out. (side note I think the unit itself is nearly as old as I am, is loud, inneficient, etc. So I’m not too upset about it dying)

Or just live somewhere home air conditioning is never going to be needed...

AC appears to be working as intended. Now if only I could figure out how to turn it off...

I think you may have a coolant leak somewhere.

Yah but then you end up in this situation.

I just checked and the coolant tank is emptying at an alarming rate.

Or you could live in a home with proper insulation.

My house got AC and a gas furnace (replacing the coal one) in approx 1962, and just last fall replaced both of them. They were ancient dinosaurs, but they lasted forever.

Its a 60 year old home. I’m addressing the insulation as I can.

I can’t afford these places, at least not without immigrating to another country...

I’ve revived many an AC unit in an emergency by simply replacing the capacitors and contactor. If you’ve got a multimeter, ears, and eyes, diagnosis is pretty easy. Maybe poke around if your home warranty doesn’t help you. I can write up some steps if you need.
